Finally the day we all have been waiting for is here! MILAN’11 started off with a bang this morning . , Amongst the first few events which took place, was an event called Pen It under the Literary domain. This on – the- spot poetry and essay writing competition was coordinated by Amrutha and Karthik from the Biotech department. The main aim of this event was to invoke thought and feelings on certain topics teenagers could relate to and to test their writing skills. And indeed, looking at the 60 and odd participants, both from Srm university and from other colleges, bent over their papers, writing feverishly , sometimes stopping to reflect on a certain idea, one understood just how much thought was put into their writings.
The topics given to participants for poetry – writing were – ‘no one just like me’ or ‘what a dream’ and the topics for essay writing were – ‘ do social networking sites enhance a young person’s life or serve as a substitute for real social life?’ or are today’s youngsters overly concerned with their physical appearance?’ These topics were chosen by the volunteers, judges and organizers together said Yamini, a volunteer for this event. She also mentioned that this event was set up to test writing skills, vocabulary and language of students. the quality of writing of a participant will decide whether he is a winner or not.
This was one of those few events which was fun to take part in and also to learn something from. Participants, when leaving the room had smiles on their faces and said they now knew exactly what they were capable of in terms of writing, how imaginative they were and how quickly ideas came into their minds.
